Building a cohousing community is like playing a team sport. Each phase requires a new strategy, new plays, and contributions from every team member. At Compass Commons, we’ve recently hit a major milestone—we’ve moved from planning and designing into the construction phase! It’s an exciting time, and our team is stepping up to the challenge in true cohousing spirit.
Just like in football, our community operates with a shared playbook and a common goal: creating a vibrant, connected neighborhood where everyone thrives.
The Game Plan: From Vision to Action!
In the early days, we focused on designing and planning—drafting our vision, setting goals, and aligning our team. Now, we’re stepping onto a different playing field: construction. Our new Offensive Line, the construction team, is in place and ready to take action. They have the tools and trust to make key decisions, keeping the momentum going as we work toward building our future homes.
This trust is foundational to cohousing. We rely on collaboration and shared responsibility, empowering members to contribute their strengths while honoring the community’s collective vision.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!
Cohousing thrives on participation. At Compass, we’ve discovered that everyone has a role to play. Some members are like Quarterbacks, steering strategy and leading our consensus decision-making process. Others are Wide Receivers and Running Backs, taking on specific tasks and running with them. And then there are the Linebackers—those who provide support by staying engaged, attending meetings, or simply staying informed.
Even Cheerleaders play an essential role. They show up to social events and gatherings, keeping spirits high and reminding us why we’re building this community in the first place
Our strength lies in these connections. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to our goal of creating a neighborhood that fosters collaboration, belonging, and shared purpose.
