Compass Common House
One of the big things that sets cohousing apart is the common house. This is a shared amenities building that typically has things like a big dining/activities room, a large kitchen, lounges, children’s play room, laundry room, reading areas, guest room, workshop, exercise room, craft areas and a music room. These amenities are shared by everyone in the community.
At Compass Cohousing, we have elected to build our homes first and finish the common house a little later with completion after move in.
Let’s look at some of the features that are in the Compass Common House vision!
Dining Room & Kitchen
An important activity in cohousing are group dinners which are held several times a month. Breaking bread with your neighbours allows the time to catch up and share stories and experiences.
Shared Washers & Dryers
This amenity allows you the option of opting out of having a washer and dryer in your unit and using that space for additional storage.
Lounge Areas
Lounge areas are great places to sit and read or meet with friends for a chat. How about enjoying a cup of tea by the fireplace on a winter's day?
Guest Rooms
Having company and need some extra space to accommodate them? They can stay in private guest rooms while visiting.
Children’s Play Area
This is a safe place for children to play any time, but especially on rainy days. Close enough to the dining area to allow for adult supervision.
Multi-Purpose Room
This could be a terrific area for yoga, dance and art classes as well as larger meetings. The room will likely have some essential exercise equipment for your daily workout.
Crafts Room
A crafts room could provide storage for all sorts of crafting supplies and space for groups to get together to create whatever their hearts desire.
Workshop
Leaving no space unused, the workshop can be fully equipped with all manner of woodworking equipment, a kiln, jewelry making equipment, or more!
Music Room
How about a music rehearsal studio suitably soundproofed and able to accommodate individual musicians or an entire band?
